Looks like the Gibson acquisition of Mesa/Boogie is not the only major MI biz merger to take place in the first week of 2021. Aguilar Amplification, known for its bass amps and pedals, is now set to become a part of the Korg USA portfolio of brands.
Korg USA acquires Aguilar Amplification
According to an email sent out by Aguilar Amplification, the company is now owned by Korg USA, and as of 1 January, 2021, has been renamed Aguilar Musical Instruments LLC. It will join the impressive list of brands already under Korg USA, which include Korg, VOX, Blackstar, Spector, Darkglass, and Tanglewood, among others.
This is an excellent way to kick off 2021 and we are excited to add the well-respected brand of Aguilar to our portfolio – Joe Castronovo, President of Korg USA
With over 20 years in the industry, Aguilar Amplification has garnered a reputation among bass players for its amp heads, cabinets, preamps, pickups, and effects pedals. According to the new arrangement, Aguilar’s staff will remain on board. This includes Dave Avenius, who will stay on as managing director, and called the acquisition “the next chapter in Aguilar history”. Co-founder Dave Boonshoft will also carry on as lead product development consultant.
This acquisition is an important step forward to help us take the brand to the next level. Partnering with Korg, one of the most reputable names in our industry, presents an opportunity to work with a world-class team focused on improving our capabilities and growing our business. – Dave Boonshoft, co-founder of Aguilar
