Hexinverter is the latest casualty of the post-pandemic supply chain and chip shortage issues. The company follows WMD Devices and some other troubled boutique manufacturers in having to close.
Hexinverter operates out of Montréal, Canada and have been behind a range of interesting and influential modules. Galilean Moons did Maths before Maths was a thing, the percussion range of Mutant Drums are superb and the recent Mindphaser has had us all boggled since we first saw it in 2018. But then the Mindphaser is a case in point because after the first run of 250 it’s been impossible to source the components to build anymore.
Stacy Gaudreau of Hexinverter stated that it’s been incredibly difficult to keep up with demand, and modules have ended up out of stock for months and sometimes years at a time.
Unfortunately, the post-pandemic manufacturing climate was the final nail in the coffin for us at Hexinverter. Today we are announcing our intent to close down operations within the next year. I do not have an exact “end date” to share just yet, but I can tell you that it will probably be sometime in 2023.
We are now shipping out a number of modules that have been out of stock for ages, including the Mutant Brain! Be sure to hit up your local dealer or the direct shop if you’ve been waiting on some fresh Mutants for your rack, as these are the final runs of these products that will be built. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! We will begin the long process of closing up shop sometime in the new year once supplies are entirely diminished.
It’s desperately sad to see these small makers of modular close down. Stacy appears to have no regrets, saying that the last decade has been a wild ride and no one could have predicted how big Eurorack has got or how difficult things would become.
It’s been a tonne of fun, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of being a part of, and the opportunity to contribute to the world of modular synthesis.
As for the current range of products, there will be no more Mindphasers. Everything else and all of the inventory is being shipped out to dealers in the small numbers that are left. Support will continue as long as it can, and the Mutant Brain Surgery configuration page should be available somewhere indefinitely.
Thank you Stacy and the crew at Hexinverter, for all the noise, electrons and modulations. We wish you all the best in where you find yourselves.
