The HEDD TYPE 40 System is a scalable modular active studio monitoring system that uses the TYPE 40 Main and up to three XTD modules.

The TYPE 40 Main uses a triamplified (1300 W) 3-way sealed cabinet design with a 10.75-inch high-excursion woofer and a unique MTM speaker arrangement, placing the two 4-inch drivers on either side of the AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter.

With this as the foundation, you can then expand the system with up to three XTD 10.75-inch speaker modules to reinforce the range between 20 and 250 Hz. What makes these XTD modules so special is that you can use them in either sealed or ported configurations. This allows you to tailor the system to your specific requirements, as a sealed system will naturally be more clinical and better suited to mixing and mastering.

There are also four different operating modes, so you can set the XTD modules to front-fire ported, front-fire closed, cardioid ported, and cardioid closed. While the front-firing XTD modes favor more ideal acoustic spaces and speaker positioning, the cardioid modes reduce the rear leakage low-end energy, which allows better results when placed next to walls or in reflective environments.

With a modular monitoring setup, the main concern would be phase and time alignment, which is precision-managed with the onboard 96 kHz DSP system of each speaker. There are three different time alignment modes, including Zero Phase for amplitude and phase response correction, Flat for frequency response correction, and Off for low-latency “PA system” operation.

For acoustic correction, there are high and low shelving filters and a desk filter for tuning the speakers based on their positioning, and the HEDD CTRL lets you switch speaker profiles, calibrate using a 12-band parametric EQ, and configure systems ranging from simple stereo rigs up to 250-speaker immersive setups.
