Wild Customs are a French company known for making some very interesting boutique electric guitars and now they have just launched the Harvest J-45 acoustic with a P90 pickup. This instrument is based on the classic Gibson J-45 dreadnaught acoustic,  just with a far more ornate finish and a range of embellishments.

The Gibson J-45 is a very popular guitar and so Wild Customs have reimagined it with a far more ornate finish, which includes etched pick guards and brass fittings, all with an aged finish.  The pick guard is made from maple and has been etched and then aged by hand. The brass mount for the P90 has had a similar treatment and so to me the whole guitar looks really good.

The guitar features a sitka spruce top with cream binding and has a mahogany back. The neck is also mahogany; the fretboard is rosewood. That makes for very traditional Gibson J-45 specifications in construction terms. What makes this acoustic stand out visually is the finish. I must say I am not a huge fan of relic guitars usually. However, this instrument has more of an aesthetic appeal to me than, say, a relic Stratocaster does.

Of course having a P90 loaded in the sound hole means you can get a bit more raucous when plugged in. I could find no specification on the P90, so it’s a bit of a punt unless you go try one out.

All in all, this seems a great-looking guitar with some lovely hand-worked hardware. But there’s not much in the way of specification available yet, but we do know this guitar has a boutique-level price tag. I would have to try one out before parting with my money and I think this could be the major issue for many players. The company currently sells mainly direct and so it’ll be hard to get your hands on one before you order.
