Permission to Land

The Darkness has announced a 20th-anniversary dual overdrive/distortion pedal called Permission to Land. It has two sides and is based on Justin and Dan Hawkins’ guitar tones from their debut album.

Their new Hawkins Brothers Audio company has this model available now as a pre-order. The pedal uses studio-grade audio components and is being hand-assembled in the EU.

Two Sides

They describe Justin’s channel as providing a massive overdrive with an aggressive character, perfect for powerful and punchy tones.

And Dan’s channel is said to offer an organic, tube-like overdrive, reminiscent of classic British amps from that era. There is also a LO-FI switch, which adds a distinct filter effect to the sound, supposedly like an old vintage radio.

The Darkness has a great guitar tone so this could be fun, and I can certainly see their loyal fans wanting to grab one of these.

If for some reason you don’t already, be sure to check out Justin Hawkins Rides Again, which is one of my favourite YouTube channels. Justin is so worth watching and his channel is really great.

Stirling Pete Wentz StingRay

The Stirling by Music Man Pete Wentz StingRay signature model is available in Black or Fiesta Red. It is Sterling by Music Man’s first full-scale passive bass model and looks pretty well thought out.

The bass is fitted with a single Alnico V humbucker and has a simple volume and tone control setup.

Loon Inlay

This signature bass comes with a custom loon inlay at the 12th fret, black hardware throughout, and a gold pickguard. It will certainly appeal to fans of Fall Out Boy and I quite like the simple, yet effective layout of the model.

If you need a utilitarian bass, then it could be just the thing.
