Is the Fender Custom Shop Tyler Bryant Shell Pink Strat really worth $5,750? This limited-release model isn’t exactly anything new and yet it is being sold for a lot of money. We take a look at this latest Custom Shop model and then take a peek at the latest

Fender Custom Shop Tyler Bryant Shell Pink Strat

The latest Fender Custom Shop Tyler Bryant Shell Pink Stratocaster is based on Bryant’s own 1960s style Shell Pink Strat, named “Pinky”. It is a limited run of 60 guitars and doesn’t appear to offer anything particularly unique.

Specifications

It comes with a 2-piece select alder body and a ’60s Oval “C” maple neck that has a flat laminated rosewood fretboard with 21 Narrow Tall frets and a set of Micarta White Dot inlays.

Then it has a set of Custom Shop Hand-Wound ’60s Single-Coil Strat pickup in the neck, a Custom Shop Hand-Wound RWRP ’60s Single-Coil Strat in the middle position, plus a “Shawbucker” humbucker at the bridge. These are wired by a pair of tone knobs, a master volume knob and a five-way blade pickup switch.

The finish is a Shell Pink nitrocellulose lacquer that has been aged and it has an engraved aluminium anodised pickguard.

I’m really struggling to see how Fender is justifying the price tag with this one. As it isn’t really offering much more than an HSS ’60s spec Strat with an aged finish.

Analogue

The effect is a stereo, analogue chorus/vibrato and it uses MN3007 BBD chips along with a digital microprocessor for precise control, presets, and also MIDI. Users can choose between five digitally controlled LFO wave shapes and a unique phase control that allows for synchronising or 180-degree phase shifting between the two LFOs.

Certainly, one to check out of you like modulation effects and it has a great 1980s-inspired paint job.

The cost is covering the hand-engraved pickguard. Fender hired the same guy who made the original pick guard on TB’s Pinky2. He mentioned to me last year what each guard was going to cost Fender.
