Gibson Jake Kiszka SG: Recreating The Beloved
Limited Edition signature model for Greta Van Fleet guitarist announced
Gibson has announced the Jake Kiszka SG Standard signature model for the Greta Van Fleet guitarist. This latest limited-edition model is based on his ’61 SG fitted with a Vibrola.
Jake Kiszka SG Standard
Gibson loves a limited-edition signature model, and the new Jake Kiszka SG Standard falls right into that category. It is based on the guitar Kiszka is known for playing live and in the studio with Greta Van Fleet, so it makes sense to release it for fans. He refers to it as “The Beloved,” and it is the guitar everyone associates with him.
Construction-wise, it is the familiar mahogany body and Slim Taper mahogany neck you would associate with a 61 SG. It has a bound rosewood fretboard fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets and a set of acrylic trapezoid inlays.
Sideways Vibrola
Tuning should be good (as long as you lay off the Vibrola) as it uses a Graph Tech nut and a set of Gibson Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone pegs. A Sideways Vibrola is usually good for subtle warbles, and this one is paired with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge.
If you like Vibrolas, that’s good, I’m not a huge fan myself and would rather have a hard tail with an SG. However, this is a signature guitar, and so it replicates the model used by Kiszka.
Thankfully, his Vibrola is fixed, so there is no actual movement; it is more for the aesthetic. Which, in my opinion, is the best way to have them fitted, as they can be flaky at best.
T-Type
It comes fitted with a pair of Gibson T-Type humbuckers, and so it should do that rock thing with ease. They are controlled by the standard independent volume and tone controls, Gibsown wires these with Orange Drop capacitors.
The guitar features a sleek, high-gloss Faded Vintage Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer finish and arrives in a black Modern hardshell case branded with Jake Kiszka’s signature “doubloon” logo.
While it ships with a standard backplate already installed, the case also includes a separate hand-signed and stamped Jake Kiszka backplate for you to swap in. To round out the set, you’ll also find a custom leather strap finished with a metallic coin pendant designed by Jake.
Price & Availability
The Gibson Jake Kiszka SG Standard is available at Thomann, priced at $2475/£2199/€2499. These are a limited run, so if you want one, don’t hang around too long, or they will sell out.
