The new Gibson Cat Stevens J-180 CE signature acoustic has just been officially revealed; based on the guitar Stevens used to write some of his most famous hits on, it comes with an eye-catching look and price tag to match!
Gibson Cat Stevens J-180 CE
This new Gibson Cat Stevens J-180 CE signature model is based on Cat Steven’s original black Gibson J-180. The guitar was purchased at London’s famous Selmer’s Music Shop in 1969; Stevens wrote and recorded Wild World, Peace Train, Father and Son and more on that original guitar.
Moon & Stars
Now, Gibson has honoured the songwriter with this new signature model. It features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top, mother of pearl moon and star headstock and a set of graduated star fretboard inlays. Each guitar comes with an interior label hand-signed by Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
It comes with a mahogany 60s Custom profile neck, with a rosewood fretboard fitted with 20 Standard Small Crown frets. The black nitrocellulose finish is offset with a tortoise J-180 Double Moustache pickguard which makes it really stand out from the crowd. The guitar comes fitted with an LR Baggs M1 soundhole pickup with the volume control on the pickup itself.
This model is limited to only 50 guitars worldwide. Each guitar ships in a special custom case emblazoned with a Cat logo. It comes in at s similar price point to the new Everly Brothers models announced last week. Admittedly, it’s not cheap, but no doubt a great guitar and probably a decent investment as well.
