Strong Foundations for Studio Electronics SE-3X by Sounds Divine
One great thing about writing this column every week is that by exposing and promoting great sound designers and their wares, I often get introduced to new ones I’d never heard of before. One such designer is Simon, who trades under the name Sounds Divine.
I was blissfully unaware of his work, so I was delighted when he contacted Gearnews to remedy that! Simon designs sounds for both hardware and software synths so you should check his website out to see if he has anything of interest to you and your synth collection.

However, today we’re looking at his latest effort entitled ‘Strong Foundations’, a bank of 100 bass-focused presets for the mighty SE-3X from Studio Electronics. This rackmount-only analog synth is a sonic powerhouse, featuring not 1 but 4 different classic filters that are inspired by some of the greatest filters ever made.
SE took classic SEM, Moog, ARP and Roland filters, recreated them and pushed them even further then the originals. These were married up to big, powerful oscillators and an intuitive Moog-like interface, delivering a pelvis-busting heavyweight monosynth.
‘Strong Foundations’ makes use of all the SE-3X’s features and gives you a huge range of bass sounds for all kinds of genres and styles. I wish I had an SE-3X to try these out on, but if the video demo is anything to go by, owners are in for a real treat! Just make sure everything is nailed down and your breakables are protected!
Pick up Strong Foundations for your SE-3X here, for €30 ex.VAT and check out their other sound sets whilst you’re at it!
Labyrinth Vol. 2 for Oberheim TEO-5 by Scott McAuley Sounds
Almost a month since the release of Labyrinth Vol.1 for Oberheim’s TEO-5, Scott McAuley has released Vol.2, giving TEO-5 users another 80 amazing sounds with which to play. And yes, these are of the same high quality as the last set.

Once again, this pack of sounds covers all sound types from bass to leads, pads to arps and electro-mechanicals to FX. There’s something for everyone here. The TEO-5 has become a big favourite with it’s huge Oberheim sound crammed into a small unit.
And of course, these patches are 100% compatible with the recently released desktop version so all you new TEO-5 owners can benefit from these great sounds too! You can buy Labyrinth Vol.2, as well as Vol.1, from Scott’s website here for just £25.99.
Sound Bank ’79 for Cherry Audio ODC 2800 by Polydata
Cherry Audio really nailed the ARP Odyssey tone and user interface with their recently released ODC 2800 plug in. Covering all three iterations of the acclaimed and much-loved instrument, with its differing filter types and interface colour schemes, the ODC 2800 has been heralded as one of the finest Odyssey recreations ever.

And now Polydata have added a new bank to their superb Sound Bank ’79 series specifically for the ODC 2800. We love this series and have featured it many times in this column. By now, you should be aware that the sounds in these banks have been designed as if we were still in that incredible year for music.
I still maintain that 1979 was a real watershed moment in pop music, as the last vestiges of punk gave way to a ‘new wave’ of rock, pop and metal that rallied against traditional norms and the political turmoil of the day.
These 45 patches fit in with Polydata’s mandate perfectly, as the original Odyssey was many keyboard players’ synth of choice at that time. Billy Currie, anyone? Of course, the big benefit of the ODC 2800 is that it comes with FX and polyphony, amongst many other ‘expanded’ features.
Polydata’s Sound Bank 79 for Cherry Audio’s ODC 2800, along with all the other banks in the series, is available from the Polydata website for $15.
Myth Rhythm for Kontakt/Kontakt Player by Ocean Swift
Another returning developer to this column is Ocean Swift, this time with a drum and FX focused library for Kontakt and the free Kontakt Player. Myth Rhythm is described as a mulit-cell percussion and sound FX instrument.

Each of the 16 cells can contain one of the 4,800+ included samples or samples of your own creation. Each cell can then be edited using filters, envelopes and LFOs and modulated via velocity, aftertouch (including polyphonic) and pitch bend.
Included samples cover a wide range of sounds, including drum sounds, spoken word and weird and wonderful noises, plus a wealth of unique elements such as animal sounds, household items, vehicles, bleeps, bloops, bells and whistles.
All of this can be passed through an array of built in effects, all accessed through the Kontakt interface. Myth Rhythm is also fully NKS compatible, so will present itself in compatible controllers and be automatically mapped.
Ocean Swift’s Myth Rhythm is currently on a limited-time intro offer with 33% off at just €40, after which the price rises to €60.
