Erica Synths want to help you make Techno. To this end they put together the ultimate dark Techno System, stuffed full of new techno-focused modules, and demonstrated at Superbooth. Since then the individual modules have been released in dribs and drabs. Now they’ve announced that they have a release date for this awesome system of beats, bass and noise and more importantly, a price.

Techno System

It’s great to have a Eurorack system that’s focused on achieving something. So many collections of modules or off-the-shelf systems are open machines of exploration. This can result in fabulous journeys into the unknown, but it can also get a bit fathomless, blurred and directionless. The Techno System, on the other hand, does Techno, or at least that’s your starting point.

Included in the Erica Synths Travel case are:

  • Bass Drum
  • Snare Drum
  • Toms
  • Clap
  • Hi-hats D
  • Cymbals
  • Modulator
  • Link
  • Stereo Mixer
  • Mixer
  • Mixer Lite
  • Dual FX
  • Dual Drive
  • Bassline
  • Sample Drum
  • Drum Sequencer

Some of these modules have already been released – we saw the Dual Drive and Stereo Mixer just the other day. Others have yet to materialise but we have a few weeks yet to the official Techno System release date of the 21st September. So hopefully those other modules will be emerging soon. Of particular interest is the Sample Drum which we learned from Superbooth is a 2 channel sample player taking samples from an SD card but with lots of CV possibilities.

There’s also a “Modulator” on the list that I don’t think we have seen before but it’s on ModularGrid described as “An advanced modulation and pitched noise source with focus on rhythmic (but not limited to) compositions in mind”.

The Drum Sequencer has been out in the wild for a little while and has generally received a lot of glowing comments from users, along with some bugs that I understand have been sorted out.

Erica Synths have also reversed their all-black image by the sudden and startling release of white front panels – who’d have thought it?

Price

So, for your all-in-one, bangingly ecstatic Techno System with everything you need to produce some alarmingly intense sounds you’ll need to find €3990 and then probably some tax on top. The price does appear cheaper on ModularGrid but that will not include the cost of the case and power supply.

Curating a system like this, with such a purpose and intention is a genius idea. The Techno System is going to draw a whole new load of people into the wonders of Eurorack without any of the pain of trying to design and build a system. It’s not available for preorder yet but keep your eye on Erica for updates.
