A case full of Erica Synths modules is always an awesome thing and when it’s curated by the makers to be the darkest, most deliberately dangerous modular system around then you can be certain it’ll be quite a beast. And so we have the Black System II.
Black System II
16 modules looked resplendent in black and white with just a hint of jellyfish. It’s all bakelite and silver patch sockets against the darkest of black backgrounds, oozing with possibilities. And yet it’s a pretty simple deal. You get two oscillators; the Black Wavetable and the Black VCO, and you get two filters; the Black Polivoks and a Multimode VCF all running into a Black Quad VCA and a 4-channel Black Output module. For fun you have the Black Modulator with 4 waves of LFO and noise and the fabulous Black Octosource with 8 LFOs emerging in different ways. There’s a Black EG plus the Black Dual EG/LFO so you have no shortage of modulation. And then for effects, you have the wonderful new Black Stereo Delay. Utilities are taken care of by the Black CV Tools, Black MIDI-CV module, Black XFade and Black Mixer. And finally, for some manual meddling, there’s the Joystick Controller.
Straight forward and comprehensive hybrid modular synthesizer that encourages performance and masses of modulation. The one thing it doesn’t have is a sequencer. With the MIDI input I guess the idea is that you’re treating it like any other synthesizer and can always bring sequencing in from another source or discover new ways to move sound through the adventure of patch cables.
It all comes in a nice 2×84 HP skiff base (in black) with an integrated power supply and 25 patch cables (black).
The price is a reasonable €2900 considering the contents and will be available on the 16th September. They are taken preorders now.
Have a listen to this thing in action.
