The new Epiphone Joan Jett Olympic Special is a stripped back rock machine, with everything you need to get on with playing and very little fuss. It’s based on Joan’s longtime favourite stage guitar, and at a pretty reasonable price point.
Epiphone Joan Jett Olympic Special
This new Epiphone Joan Jett Olympic Special is about as simple as you can get with an electric guitar, with all the right ingredients for a great instrument. The model features a single PowerHammer PRO humbucker wired to a single CTS volume potentiometer. The Speed knob control even has a nice rubber grip, so you can tweak it easily on the fly. Apart from this, the only other control is an on/off toggle switch that can provide users with a kill switch functionality.
It has a mahogany body and glued-in neck, with an Indian Laurel fretboard fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets. An adjustable wraparound bridge/tailpiece anchors solidly to the mahogany body and should give you decent sustain. Apart from this, the guitar features a set of Die-Cast tuners and a Graph Tech nut.
The guitar comes in an Aged Gloss white finish, and you have Joan’s signature on the rear of the headstock, so it doesn’t scream signature model. It comes with an Epiphone Custom Premium gig bag included in the price, along with a set of stickers for case candy.
Overall, I really like the look of this guitar, as it is a meat-and-potatoes type of instrument and perfectly suited for rock ‘n’ roll, punk and more, in a similar way to the recent Billy Joe Armstrong model, released last November, another great little rocker at a pretty decent price point.
