The Alex Lifeson 1976 ES-355 Reissue is the latest collaboration with Epiphone and adds a more affordable semi-hollow, signature guitar to his ever-expanding lineup of guitar gear.
Custom Shop
The Rush guitarist worked with the Gibson Custom Shop to make it as accurate as possible for the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection line, which it is part of. This means you also get the Gibson-style ‘open book’ headstock shape.
Construction includes a 5-ply maple/poplar semi-hollow body paired with a 3-piece maple neck, which has a Slim C profile and an ebony fretboard with block inlays and a Graph Tech nut. For a guitar which is so well specified, they have also given it some very nice hardware and electronics.
Gibson T-Type
It comes fitted with a set of two Gibson T-Type (made in the USA) humbuckers, and it has a mono Varitone switch. The Varitone offers a 6-position rotary notch filter, so you get lots of potential tone options for recording with, etc.
The standard volume and tone controls all come with Black Witch Hat knobs. The wiring includes CTS Potentiometers, Mallory Capacitors, and Switchcraft switches and output jacks.
Maestro Vibrola
All the hardware is gold (including the T-Type pickups) and includes a gold Maestro Vibrola system, paired with a vintage 70s style “Harmonica” Tune-O-Matic bridge.
Who is it for?
Anyone who loves Rush will appreciate this new model, and also fans of the 1970s semi-hollow Gibson models. Especially with all these upgrades, including the T-Type pickups, Varitone and the Maestro Vibrola.
