Elektron has posted a mysterious teaser video on its Facebook page. The short clip is accompanied by the words “meet the machines” and a hint that they’ll reveal more information on February 26. Until then, we can play a little guessing game. What could Elektron be up to?
Elektron teaser video: meet the machines
The void between NAMM and Superbooth is the time for teasers. Polyend released a short clip yesterday. Today, Elektron’s Facebook fans were in for a surprise. But what is that?! I see an ear with a hand and some blurry images of knobs flickering across what looks like a detached mouth of some sort. Can we pull some hard clues from this artsy concoction?
There’s even less to be seen than in Polyend’s video. We don’t get to see the actual device at all. “Meet the machines” could be a clue that Elektron is working on a successor to the Monomachine, which has been in the rumour mill many times. Some commenters seem to think along those lines. On the other hand, the plural “machines” could indicate that this isn’t one, but several new devices. Could Elektron be working on its own set of small boxes like the volca series or Pocket Operators?
Is it even a new instrument at all? Or has Elektron finally gotten Overbridge to work?
The percussive sounds in the video aren’t of much help. They could be samples, maybe paired with some sort of granular engine. Or it could be one device with several different synthesis engines, like the Monomachine. In this case, “machines” probably refers to the various engines. The sound seems digital to me. But are we even hearing the new device in the video? And what’s that ear with a hand supposed to tell us?
If Elektron stays true to its word, we’ll know more on February 26.
