Denise audio has released poltergate, a new drum shaping plug-in that combines gating, transient design and de-bleeding. With intuitive controls for each part of the workflow, poltergate offers a quick and effective solution for cleaning up your drum tracks and adding a whole lot of punch in the process.

By offering a combined solution that not only rids your drum tracks of bleed and unwanted signal components, but also offers transient shaping, poltergate is a unique approach to drum processing. Think of it as a luxury noise gate with a whole bunch of extra features.
The sidechain section allows you to solo and set up the internal sidechain signal that triggers the gate. A built-in EQ ensures that the gate only reacts to the specified frequency range. This lets you isolate the bass drum or snare, leaving out other signals that may have found their way into the mic. The gate then offers the usual threshold, attack, hold and release controls for shaping the envelope.
The built-in de-bleeder offers another way to get rid of unwanted mic bleed. With a choice of three modes, a pair of high pass and low pass filters and a release control, the custom algorithm strips the signal of cymbal or room bleed.
In the dynamics section, poltergate offers more ways to achieve the punchy drum sound you’re after. Here, you can shape the transients using the Punch and Fat controls and the Attack and Duration sliders. There’s also a clipper for extra drive and coloration.
With so many options, poltergate is an all-in-one dynamic toolkit to clean up your drum tracks. But it can be used creatively, too, denise audio says. If you automate the gate parameters in your DAW, it becomes a creative tool that can transform loops and turn them into something new.
