The Cranborne Audio Carnaby HE2 is a new rackmount 3-band Harmonic EQ unit with mid-side processing and digital control via its plug-in.
The innovative UK manufacturer has borrowed ideas from the Carnaby 500-series module released last year and expanded the concept into a stereo rackmount EQ unit with saturation and plug-in control within your DAW.
Cranborne Audio Carnaby HE2
The design of the Carnaby HE2 is focussed around the two sets of three colour-coded frequency bands. Moreover, these can each be bypassed for precise control. As an EQ, it can operate in three modes, including stereo, dual-mono, and mid-side.
The key difference between the Carnaby HE2 and most other EQs you’ll find is that all the frequency bands as well as the input and output gain stages introduce harmonic saturation into the signal.
The idea behind this was to create an EQ processor that is as musical as the famous vintage EQs of yesteryear, but with modern versatility and precise control.
As the circuits are driven harder, the Carnaby HE2’s dynamic response gives you more boost or cut as well as harmonic saturation within each frequency band. When combined with the I/O gain controls you have a wide range of colour you can add. So you can use saturation or distortion as you desire.
With both Ethernet and USB connectivity, the Carnaby HE2 plug-in interface can be easily incorporated into your studio. This gives you complete control over all the parameters. What’s more, the added ability to create and store patches with your own custom EQ settings.
When it comes to hardware integration, each of the two channels is also equipped with insert sends and returns. This allows you to link up your favourite compressor and do some leveling before adding harmonics and colour to your mix.
