Hinting at some of the new features introduced in Bitwig Studio 4.3, the developer has themed the update “Space & Tone”. It includes two new devices for adding space and dimension to your tracks and mixes, along with a couple of new Grid and Polymer modules for expanded sound design possibilities.

The new Convolution device is a versatile IR loader that can of course be used for convolution reverbs. According to Bitwig, it comes with 270 ready-made impulse responses. However, the developer says that you can use Convolution creatively to create much more than reverb. Any audio can be used as an impulse, which opens up many creative sound design opportunities. You can also adjust the color, tone, and width of the effect.

The second new device is Delay+, a versatile stereo delay. Bitwig says that it lets you set the delay in milliseconds or beats, and you can nudge each channel independently to create stereo effects. Moreover, various blur options can turn the delay into diffuse, reverb-like textures. There’s also a built-in ducking feature that reduces the delay when the input level increases. Thanks to Bitwig’s nested structure, you can also insert other devices or VST plug-ins into the feedback loop, which allows you to create unique-sounding delays unlike anything else.

Updates for The Grid and Polymer

Furthermore, the Bitwig Studio 4.3 update includes two new modules for The Grid and the Polymer synth. Union is an oscillator that lets you blend square, saw, and triangle wave shapes. The new Low-pass MG module simulates a classic Moog filter and mix bus. In addition to this, several other modules have been updated and expanded with new features, including Lowpass SK, Comb, and various envelope modules.

Along with these new features, Bitwig Studio 4.3 includes the new Perfect Drift soundpack. The developer says that the sounds “embrace asymmetries and inconsistencies to approximate analog’s imperfect beauty”. If you’re not sure what they mean by this, just check out the audio clips below.

Last, but not least, Bitwig Studio 4.3 includes full support for the recently announced CLAP plug-in standard developed by Bitwig and u-he.
