Beatport Track ID Recognizes Tracks in the Mix – Shazam for DJs?
No More Asking the DJ: Beatport's New Feature IDs Tracks Even in a Live Mix
Track ID is the newest feature in the Beatport app, and it’s going to cause equal amounts of joy and frustration. Joy, because it can now identify tracks even while they’re playing in a mix, including edits, mashups, and remixes. Frustration, because every DJ who guards their secret weapons like state secrets is about to have a significantly harder time keeping those tracks under wraps. Unless you’re playing unreleased tracks, of course!
Beatport Track ID: How the New Feature in the Beatport App Recognizes Tracks in Real Time, Even in Mixes, Edits, and Mashups
Beatport Track ID: Shazam for DJs?
Beatport has built a track recognition feature directly into its app, and the concept is about as straightforward as it gets. You tap the Track ID icon, let the app listen for a moment, and it returns the result in real time. No typing, no guessing, no awkward post-set conversations with the DJ.
According to Beatport, the feature works regardless of how loud the soundsystem is cranking or whether the track you’re trying to identify is currently playing in a mix with another one. Pitch-shifted tracks, timestretched edits, and remixed versions are all fair game. Even filter sweeps apparently don’t throw it off, though Beatport doesn’t specifically address that. The short version: if it’s playing, Track ID should find it.

How It Works under the Hood
Beatport briefly explains the technology behind it, and yes, AI is involved. The system essentially cleans up the audio it’s listening to, stripping out background noise, effects, and any other layers sitting on top of the track you’re looking for. The cleaned-up result then gets matched against the Beatport catalog.
It’s a sensible approach for a club or festival environment, where the audio reaching your phone’s microphone is rarely clean. Whether the matching quality holds up across the full range of scenarios Beatport promises is something that’ll need real-world testing, but the underlying idea is solid.
Simple Workflow, Instant Results
Once a track is identified, it gets added to your Track ID History inside the app. From there you can preview it, save it to a playlist, stream it, or buy it directly in the Beatport store. That last part is obviously not a coincidence: for Beatport, Track ID is as much a discovery and sales tool as it is a convenience feature for ravers. Fair enough, though, since it’s free to use.
For DJs on the other side of this equation, the days of keeping that one untraceable edit hidden in the set are numbered. Whether that’s a good or bad thing probably depends on which side of the booth you’re standing on.
