Hardware and software maker Avid has sweetened the deal for everyone interested in its Pro Tools | Carbon interface. From now until mid-September, all new buyers will receive a permanent license for Pro Tools Ultimate and the Auto-Tune Hybrid pitch correction software. While the Carbon interface is sublimely expensive at EUR 4079, the Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license (priced EUR 2590 for new buyers) takes a huge chunk off the total investment. Add Auto-Tune Hybrid at USD 399 (EUR 337) and you get nearly EUR 3000 worth of software that you’ll actually use.
Released late last year, Pro Tools | Carbon is the latest flagship Pro Tools interface. You can read more about it here. If you are a strict Windows user, be aware that Carbon is currently Mac-only and connects over Ethernet or Thunderbolt (using the Apple TB to Gigabit Ethernet adapter). Likewise, users of older Pro Tools versions must upgrade to version 2020.11 or later in order to use it. The software works under macOS Catalina 10.15.6 or later.
As for Auto-Tune Hybrid, this is Antares’ solution for Pro Tools users who need Auto-Tune in both Native AAX and AAX DSP formats. AVID’s Hybrid Engine technology lets users switch seamlessly between the two – for example, using the DSP format for low-latency tracking and the Native format for mixing. The technology was first introduced with the Pro Tools | Carbon interface and later brought to HDX systems. So Auto-Tune Hybrid is an appropriate showcase for the Hybrid Engine’s possibilities, in addition to a product you pretty much expect to have within a professional studio environment.
