Audiority unleashed Pyros: 1 plug-in, 20 distortions
Audiority Pyros doesn’t necessarily look particularly elegant, and it shouldn’t. After all, its prime directive is to destroy audio material. Sometimes distortion is a wonderful means of artistic expression! The plug-in contains 20 algorithms for this exact purpose, plus there are a few additional degradation options. Audiority Pyros
Audiority describes its creation as an aggressive multi-mode distortion unit. The different modes come from 20 distortion algorithms, each with different parameters available to adjust. While the high-pass filter (LF Cut) and tone parameters are present in each mode, the middle controls change their functionality according to the algorithm. Additionally, you can switch between hard and soft clipping.
An envelope follower is also present, which can be set to bipolar as well. This applies to the feedback, too, and you can also change the tube distortion bias. Visually, these two parameters are almost out of sight, but they have a profound effect on the sound. Look for the “screws”.
The final setup is made from input and output gain controls, alongside a mix controller to let you dial in precisely how much you want from the effect. There are VU meters, too, showing the input and output signal levels. A bunch of presets are included to get you started. Of course, you can also save your own settings.
Overall, Pyros seems to be a capable plug-in for mangling audio via distortion, saturation, clipping, bit-crushing and similar techniques. The introductory price is quite affordable, too. There’s a demo version that lets you try out all the features, but it mutes the output for three seconds each minute.
