Arturia Pigments is without a doubt one of the most powerful and versatile software synths available today. The latest version, released in December 2025, introduced a new Play view with streamlined controls for quick, easy access to the most important synthesis parameters. Arturia has now turned this view into Pigments Play, a new software synth that lets you experiment with the core features and sounds of Pigments for free!
Pigments Play contains 100 presets that cover the vast sonic spectrum of the software synth. You can add more sounds by purchasing additional sound banks. The powerful Pigments engine under the hood offers six forms of synthesis, no less than 68 filter types, and 20 effects.
While you cannot fully edit the sounds in Pigments Play – you still need the full version for this –, you can adjust the most important parameters to fine-tune sounds to your liking. Besides the core parameters of the dual synthesis engines, you get access to the two filters, the amp envelope, and four effects. In addition, there are four macro controls for quick and easy adjustments with a single knob (Brightness, Timbre, Time, Movement).

Price and Compatibility
Arturia Pigments Play is now available for free. The software synth requires Windows 10 or higher or macOS 11 or higher and comes in VST, AAX, AU, and standalone formats.
