The UNIT-4 is a battery-powered portable wireless 2-way studio monitor with low-latency audio connectivity, ideal for musicians who like to take their studio on the road with them. In this new upgrade, AIAIAI has thought beyond portable DAW-based setups to accommodate users of synths and grooveboxes as well as DJ systems.
The AIAIAI UNIT-4 Upgrade
If you’ve considered the UNIT-4 for your portable setup or whether you’ve already taken the plunge and got a pair, these new upgrades are bound to pique your interest. For starters, the speakers are more portable than ever, now with a lighter build that takes the weight down to just 2.5 kg per speaker.
What’s more, AIAIAI has introduced USB-C charging, a simple but logical progression that alleviates the chore of having to transport the power supplies for each speaker. This convenient change lets you charge up the UNIT-4 speakers the same way you would charge your smartphone and makes them more travel-friendly.
One of the most interesting updates is that the W+ Link transmitter can now run exclusively off of its own internal battery, whereas before, it required an additional power source. This allows you to connect the transmitter directly to your MPC Live, for example, and have wireless low-latency sound wherever you choose to set up.
When you purchase a set of UNIT-4 speakers, the pair includes a specially designed protective travel case that fits the necessary cables and transmitter too. While the upgrade does not improve the sound, it still makes the UNIT-4 a more viable portable speaker system for a wider range of production and DJ setups, and the new white color option is a nice touch.

Created in collaboration with Panter & Tourron, at the core of these sleek-looking monoliths is a simple design consisting of a 4-inch woofer, a 1-inch silk dome tweeter, and a 3 kHz crossover. The bi-amplified (2 x 30W), rear-ported structure gives you a max output of 105 dB SPL, which is more than enough for your mobile project studio.
Plenty of care has been taken in creating the Unit 4 for portability, so the bass ports can also be used as handles when you need to carry them to their next destination. What’s more, they only weigh 2.5 kg each.
With the free AIAIAI mobile app, you can create different profiles with the customizable 5-band EQ and control the LED rings around the woofers to create the perfect temporary listening environment.
