Musikmesse 2016: Sennheiser & Apogee Partner to Offer MK 4 Digital
Last spring,聽Sennheiser and Apogee brought the聽HandMic digital, ClipMic and MKE 2 digital to market. Utilising聽Sennheiser’s experience in transducer design and Apogee’s renowned A/D converters and pre-amps, it’s an obvious partnership. At Musikmesse 2016, they are extending their offerings with the new MK 4 Digital.
Having a pre-amp married to a microphone, converting the audio signal to digital as close to the source as possible is already regarded聽the best approach. These types of products are proven to deliver the goods, only limiting you on how and where you might use such mics. In this situation the MK 4 Digital has been equipped with either a USB or lightning cable for connectivity with Mac, PC or iOS devices such as an iPad. If recording on location with your iPad for example, this is an even cleaner聽approach than using an iOS compatible interface.
The MK 4 is a large-diaphragm condenser mic that is designed聽to deliver a warm, clear and detailed result. In conjunction with Apogee’s pre-amp and A/D converter, this should offer surprising results. We’ll have to wait and see.聽The microphone will work with all modern pro applications聽such as Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Pro Tools or Ableton Live, and iOS recording apps which are gaining in their numbers and abilities.
This looks to be an聽ideal product for travelling musicians, who want to capture an idea or deliver a part whilst on the road, through to podcasters and voice over artists. Simple operation should aid聽those without much prior recording knowledge to capture a decent result. I wonder if they should have included a pop filter? A price hasn’t been made clear yet, but the MK 4 Digital should be available this summer. The mic is on show all week at Pro Light + Sound,聽Hall 4.1, Stand No. D11.
