Les Paul Custom Long Scale
This new Gibson Les Paul Custom Long Scale is essentially a regular Les Paul Custom in an ebony nitrocellulose finish with matching gold hardware. At a glance, it looks like the standard model from Gibson; however, it should feel snappier and be better for down-tuning, as this version has a longer Fender-style 25.5-inch scale length.
Why?
The Gibson site states that it is aimed at “players who prefer the snappier attack of a longer scale length, as well as those who frequently use drop tunings.” Having the extra length allows for a slightly higher string tension when compared to the standard shorter Gibson 24.75-inch scale length.
They have made longer scale length guitars in the past, which were usually limited runs and signature models, including the Buckethead signature in white, etc.
Weight Relief
The Les Paul Custom Long Scale combines a weight-relieved (nine-hole weight relief), one-piece mahogany body with a two-piece plain maple top. Its long-scale mahogany neck features a comfortable Modern Medium C profile and a long neck tenon for maximum sustain.
The bound ebony fretboard has a standard 12-inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and mother-of-pearl block inlays.
This flagship Modern Collection model has multi-ply binding on the body and headstock, Grover tuners, a Corian nut, and the classic split diamond headstock inlay. Hardware includes a Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece, all in matching gold.
Twin Humbuckers
This model features a matched set of gold-covered humbuckers, pairing a 490R in the neck with a 498T in the bridge. It is hand-wired using CTS potentiometers, a Switchcraft three-way toggle switch, and a 1/4” output jack. According to Gibson, this setup delivers everything from smooth jazz tones to modern metal mayhem.
If you prefer a longer scale length, but want a classic-looking Les Paul Custom, then this could be the guitar you were looking for. It could be perfect for modern metal styles, etc
