Music Man Dark Ray
The Music Man Dark Ray is available in both 4-string and 5-string bass formats, so there’s something for everyone. Like their previous incarnations, they feature a single neodymium humbucking pickup, a
roasted maple neck with a dark ebony fretboard, and a comfortable ash body.
Darkglass Preamp – Alpha & Omega
These models all feature the 2-band active preamp from Darkglass, which features two drive circuits: the “Alpha” provides crisp distortion, and the “Omega” provides real fuzz.
Along with the standard volume, bass, and treble controls, there’s also an integrated gain and blend control for adjusting the gain/distortion. This allows you to mix and match both types of distortion. A practical three-way toggle switch activates the various modes, which are indicated by a bright LED ring. This visually shows the operating mode and will be a useful way to see which mode you are in when playing on a dark stage.
Dark Ray 2025 Pricing
The Music Man Dark Ray costs £2999/€3399, and the Dark Ray 5 costs £3090/€3499. Both models are available in the new finishes, Stealth Black, Plasma Purple, and Silverburst, here at Thomann.
Music Man Dark Ray BFR 2025
Anyone looking for a very special, limited-edition Dark Ray bass should check out the “Dark Ray BFR Grapes of Wrath. This is the Ball Family Reserve version, which comes with fancier specifications and costs a little more.
Grapes of Wrath
This model showcases some of the most beautifully figured tonewoods and finishes. The “Grapes of Wrath” refers to the beautiful, flamed body top made of select flamed maple, covered in a translucent, green-to-violet finish. Which should turn heads when you take it out of the case.
