Free Plugins of the Week
TugImgSynth: Turn Pictures into Wavetables
TugImgSynth by developer Tuğrul Akyüz is a free wavetable synth that dynamically generates wavetables from images, whether it’s a photo, abstract art, or even a screenshot! Simply drag and drop any image file onto the plugin’s interface and listen as it gets transformed into sound. You can choose between horizontal and circular scan modes and apply various image manipulation and interpolation techniques to define how pixels get turned into waves. TugImgSynth also offers an additional standard oscillator with sine, saw, square, and noise waveforms.

The resulting sounds then get fed through a multi-mode filter for additional sound shaping. Furthermore, TugImgSynth offers a rich modulation engine with no less than six envelopes (amp, filter, and four assignable modulation envelopes) and four LFOs. The developer says that TugImgSynth is “perfect for Experimental Music, Cinematic Scoring, and Glitchy Textures”.
TugImgSynth is a VST3 plugin for macOS and Windows.
Analog Obsession MythPre: Free Custom Tube Preamp Plugin

Analog Obsession is back with a new preamp plugin! MythPre is a custom tube mic preamp with additional line, DI, and Tone Shaper circuits available. According to the developer, it’s focused mostly on low frequencies and a solid bass response.
In addition to the Mode switch, you’ll find a gain-compensated Boost knob, as well as an output level control. MythPre also offers pre-boost highpass and lowpass filters, Pad and Phase switches, and 4x oversampling.
MythPre is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Shearwater Piano Lite: Intimate Upright Piano from the 1800s
Here’s a fantastic upright piano library you can download for free! A collaboration between Imagiro and Shearwater Studios in Plymouth, UK, Shearwater Piano is based on the studio’s vintage upright piano that dates back to the late 1800s. According to the developers, this unique instrument was meticulously sampled using a carefully chosen selection of microphones.

The full version, which is a steal at $40, features three distinct piano sounds: the original sound, a tape mode where each note was individually processed through a tape machine, and a paper mode with masking tape placed over the piano strings. The paid version also lets you blend various microphone channels and offers additional tape wobble and pad effects.
While the free version is comparatively limited and doesn’t feature the extra sounds, microphone controls, and FX, it’s still a stunningly beautiful and intimate upright piano sound.
Shearwater Piano Lite is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone formats.
