.The new Vox Giulietta VGA-5TPS is a hollow-bodied archtop model with a Super Capacitor preamp system and is coming out at the end of March. This slim, sleek design takes the previous VGA-3PS into new territory.

VGA-5TPS

These Vox Giulietta VGA-5TPS hollow-bodied archtop guitars are the company’s latest release. I am guessing we will see them sometime between the end of March and around the NAMM Show in April.

It will be available in Natural Metallic Green, Pearl Rose and Pearl White finishes, which suits the aesthetic quite well. They also have a neat five-ply binding on both the top and the back.

Archtop

The body is a classic archtop design made using a maple plywood top, back and sides. It has a 24.75” scale length set mahogany neck with a C-shape profile, paired with a baked Jatoba fretboard, fitted with 22 frets.  The obligatory f-holes are very much in keeping with the minimalist retro style.

Hardware includes a set of Gotoh SD381 tuners and a Hybrid System bridge made using a wood/aluminium construction.

Mute

Then it uses a Piezo pickup under-bridge saddle to amplify the guitar itself.

It also features a detachable string mute that is designed to address any typical issues with archtop acoustic guitars. As a piezo pickup can capture any lingering vibration of strings between the bridge and the tailpiece.

Super Capacitor Preamp

These models come with the Super Capacitor preamp system and this allows players to sculpt their tones. It has controls for master volume and tone, with an active/passive switch to turn off the preamp and a low-cut trim pot.

Hidden Controls

The controls are all hidden neatly underneath the pickguard. It has an internal battery which can be recharged. Users access it by a mini-USB port located beside the output jack on the guitar’s side. A 15-minute recharge gives approximately 10 hours of use.

Verdict

Overall, this is a neat-looking instrument with neat classic styling. I like the preamp options with USB charging facility, which also makes it user-friendly. The price point is about right, and having these modern updates is welcome. Looks like quite a fun guitar to play as well.

Certainly, one to watch out for this year.
