TurnTableSaw, Quantum Delay Lite, Ablaze Toolkit: Free Plugins of the Week
TurnTableSaw is classic turntablism in a plugin, Quantum Delay Lite is a vintage-inspired delay with deep modulation, and Ablaze Toolkit is a suite of five plugins (not just) for metal: Free plugins of the week!
Free Plugins of the Week
Armory TurnTableSaw: Don’t Scratch Yourself!

TurnTableSaw by Armory is already high up on my watch list for best free plugins of the year. Don’t be put off by the morbid aesthetics: this gem of a freebie is all about classic turntablism and DJ scratching. If you’re looking for highly customizable vinyl scratching effects, look no further!
TurnTableSaw has four sample slots for importing samples of your choice via drag-and-drop. There’s also a handy editor for trimming samples to the portion you want to use for scratching.
You can then use the highly customizable multi-stage record position and fader envelopes to create scratch patterns of your choice. Eight of these can be stored in the eight pattern slots, which you can then trigger manually or via MIDI. There’s even a Momentum feature for smoothing the envelopes to create a more human feel.
TurnTableSaw is, hands down, the best plugin for creating vinyl scratching effects I’ve ever seen. And it’s completely free (although we suggest naming a fair price if you like it as much as we do). Amazing stuff!
TurnTableSaw is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
GS DSP Quantum Delay Lite: Vintage-Style Delay with Heaps of Modulation

Quantum Delay Lite by GS DSP is a vintage-inspired delay plugin with a powerful modulation engine. As the little sibling to Quantum Delay ($49.99), it doesn’t offer all the bells and whistles of the full version, but you still get a good set of features for creating unique and great-sounding delay effects.
Quantum Delay Lite offers a choice of two delay algorithms (Tape or Fade) that can sync to your DAW tempo. You can also shape the sound using a variable-slope lowpass filter.
The plugin’s standout feature, however, is the powerful modulation system that lets you modulate just about everything. You’ve got a wide range of modulators at your disposal, including LFOs, random generators, envelope followers, macros and even chaotic systems. Nice!
The full version adds additional filter types, stereo/mono switches per section, crossfeed, pan and width, and a couple of other advanced features.
Quantum Delay Lite is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Ablaze Toolkit: 5 Free Plugins for Metal and More

Ablaze Toolkit by Ablaze Audio is a suite of five free plugins for quick and easy sound shaping. While the developer says they’re mainly designed for metal, I can see these being useful in a wide variety of styles.
- Lifter is a filter designed for adding air to vocal tracks.
- Booster is a brickwall limiter with a pre-clipping stage.
- Pitcher is a pitch shifter designed for ‘extreme vocals’.
- Bass Drop is a simple synth for creating a ‘bass drop’ sound to emphasize the impact of a heavy breakdown.
- Snare Bomb is another little synth that creates the typical ‘snare bomb’ effect often heard in heavier metal genres.
All five free plugins of the Ablaze Toolkit are available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST, AU, AAX, CLAP, and LV2 formats.
