More Information

This year, fans of Commodore should be dancing on their desks. With the revival of the Commodore brand and the release of the C64 Ultimate and the Apollo A6000, two classic models have been given a modern technological update. Now, British company Retro Games Ltd. is presenting another model, The A1200, a remake of the Amiga 1200.

The manufacturer gained experience with the successful A500 Mini, which sold over 100,000 units. However, TheA1200 does not have a slimmed-down, mini look. Instead, it has the original size, a real keyboard, and modern extras, such as HDMI output and USB ports. You won’t need to dig out an old CRT monitor from the basement to connect the “new” Amiga to it.

Of course, the technology is completely new. The A1200 runs on an ARM SoC system with Linux, which is designed to perfectly emulate the Amiga 1200. The famous Workbench is even pre-installed.

The classic “tank mouse” and a similarly classic-looking gamepad are included. Twenty-five games come pre-installed, including hits such as Defender of the Crown I and II, Ruff ‘n’ Tumble, Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, the Turrican trilogy, and reportedly, The Settlers II.

More Information

There is no built-in floppy disk drive – retro nostalgia doesn’t go that far. However, you should be able to play your Amiga games via USB sideloading. Hopefully, famous trackers such as Ultimate Soundtracker and the legendary Octamed (see the video above) will also work – that would be amazing! It would also be practical if the TheA1200 had audio outputs like the original.

There are still a few details that the manufacturer owes us, but they will certainly be revealed on November 10, when pre-orders start.

Availability and Price

TheA1200 is scheduled to ship on June 16, 2026, but preorders will start on November 10, 2025. The expected price is around 190 €, which makes the new Amiga 1200 worth taking a closer look at.
