The new ZamStar from the Samsung C-Lab is a guitar system with LED guides on the fretboard and an accompanying app. It aims to help beginners and newcomers master the fretboard and to make learning the instrument easier.

The ZamStar, a new guitar system from the Samsung C-Lab, will be shown at this year’s CES 2022. It features a set of LEDs on its fretboard which show players where to place their fingers. It comes with an accompanying ZamString app that allows users to record, edit and share their favourite guitar licks with other ZamStar users.

Smart Riffs?

The ZamStar is described as an “integrated smart guitar and online jamming platform”, and looks like it might be a nice route for new players, as they can practise by themselves and build some confidence on the instrument. The ZamString app can add effects and allows users to see their riffs on the LED fretboard, so it could be a very useful tool for beginners.

CES 2022

Currently, we know it can record up to four instruments, including vocals, at any one time, but not much more. Hopefully, more details will be made available during this year’s CES 2022, which will be held in Las Vegas from 5-8 January. We should get more info on this new system when the show goes live.

It will be interesting to see if the ZamStar will take off, and for how much. But if it does improve the learning process, then that can only be a good thing. It just means more musicians worldwide, and there’s nothing wring with that.
