Old Blood Noise Endeavors Excess V2

The new Excess V2 from Old Blood Noise Endeavors combines a lot of effects into one stompbox. Series or parallel distortion, delay, chorus, and harmonised fifths have been crammed into this unit, and it makes for an interesting pedal that straddles a lot of ground.

Multiple Modulations & Distortion

You have three modes of modulation: Delay, Chorus, and Fifth. Each can be adjusted with the Time, Depth, and Volume controls. The Distortion section of the pedal can be tweaked using the Gain, Tone, and Volume controls, to get everything from a light overdrive through to a nice fuzzy distortion. That would be a lot of fun by itself, but you can also switch up the order, so that you can have, for example, Distortion into Modulation, Modulation into Distortion, or even separate parallel paths.

Expression and Soft Touch

The pedal also has a handy expression pedal input allowing you to externally control the Rate and Depth. This V2 version features soft touch switching and true relay bypass for each effects section. Inside the pedal, you will find a trimpot to set the wet-dry mix of the Excess V2’s modulation section. It’s nice that you can set that to taste as well.

To power this new stompbox, you will need a 125 mA 9V DC centre-negative power supply. My advice, as ever with OBNE pedals, is to check out the demo videos below, as words aren’t the best way to describe the brand’s beautiful take on effects pedals.

RRP – USD 209

Expression Ramper Limited Run

OBNE has also announced the Expression Ramper limited run, in the same Excess pink colour scheme, that will be available ‘whilst stocks last’ and match the Excess V2 nicely.
