The Neumann KH 120 II dwarfs its predecessor in every department

The Neumann KH 120 II is an update of the studio monitor you never knew you needed. With claims of extended low-end reproduction, finer sonic detail, and increased DSP capabilities, it should be an improvement on the already impressive previous model.
The new KH 120 II follows the same basic design principles as its predecessor. But how did Neumann manage to increase the SPL power handling, resolution, and bass while keeping the same size?

It starts with the amplification. The KH 120 II is not only far more powerful, offering 245W combined output power, but it’s also a more lightweight speaker at 5.4 kg. With this in mind, it’s easier to get your head around the new specs, as the design has had a complete internal overhaul.
In addition, the frequency response now goes from 44 Hz to 21 kHz (±3 dB), and the KH 120 II is far more linear than the previous model. According to Neumann, it produces, “clear mids with amazing transparency as well as extreme accuracy in the time domain with precise impulse reproduction and finely resolved reverbs.”

The onboard DSP is also improved, providing phase-linear crossovers and room-adaptive calibration via Neumann’s MA 1 automatic alignment system. As a result, any acoustic adjustments are noticeably more accurate and even in treated sound environments.
What’s more, there’s a digital model, the KH 120 II AES67, that supports broadcast standards such as ST 2110, ST 2022-7 redundancy, and RAVENNA. It’s also compatible with Dante-generated AES67 network streams.
