Zoom R12 MULTITRAK
The Zoom R12 MULTITRAK is one of our favourite products of 2022. The R12 MULTITRAK combines a portable multitrack recorder, audio interface, control surface and even a built-in synth engine. It’s an amazing creative tool that should be of interest to any musician.
The R12 offers dual XLR/jack combo inputs and 8-track recording directly to SDHC or SDXC cards (up to 1TB). The device can be powered by an AC adapter (included), 4 AA Batteries, or a USB power bank.
The unit can also import audio files from an SD card or USB stick so you can bring existing tracks and samples into your project.
Notably, the Zoom R12 MultiTrak also carries an internal FM synthesizer with 18 sounds, 1 drum kit, and 150 patterns. You can play it from a MIDI controller hooked via USB-C or program sequences from the touchscreen.
Moreover, a new Sequence Play function is present where you can create playlists of projects to be used as backing tracks.

I would love to win this and then find myself snowed in somewhere with it and a couple instruments.
I’ve always been interested in having one of these just for recording band practices. I’ve been using my RME Babyface Pro and a laptop to do this, but it’s a bit bulky, and a I always have to pack and unpack everything everytime we practice (because I need my laptop for work so I can’t leave it at our rehearsal space). You could leave one of these at the rehearsal space and just take the SD-card with you.

TheR12 MultiTrak looks like a great multitrack recorder as we would expect from Zoom. Then add that it carries an internal FM synthesizer and a drum kit and it becomes the centre of your studio, at home or on the road.

It is so exciting to see how these Zoom recorders developed over time! I am still rocking the R16 in the rehearsal space which we got back in 2010 for $400. Love their products! Wouldn’t mind an upgrade 😉
