With the new Auto Mixer, the FR-AV4 can process multiple mic channels by isolating the active signal and reducing the level of the inactive channels. This automatic gain management reduces the background noise, enhances the clarity and intelligibility, while cutting down the post-production time.
This feature can be controlled from the FR-AV4 or from its accompanying Recorder Connect app on a mobile device. Because field and on-set recording setups vary, this convenient remote management allows you to configure the system for your application and tweak settings without getting in the way of the camera crew. What’s more, you can save templates and recall them later for hassle-free setups.

TASCAM FR-AV4: A 4-Channel Professional Field Recorder
The TASCAM FR-AV4 is a feature-packed 32-bit Float mobile location recorder, mixer, and audio interface built for professional camera rigs.
The FR-AV4 has been ruggedly constructed for daily usage in the great outdoors with a compact aluminium casing and a dedicated screw-in mount that makes it easy to attach to your camera rig.
The recording capabilities allow up to 32-bit Float 192 kHz audio to be captured over six channels. This includes signals from the four XLR combo high-headroom Ultra HDDA preamp inputs, and a summed stereo mix, which are simultaneously recorded to SDXC cards. Meanwhile, you can route signals to the camera or for on-set monitoring with the built-in 4×2 mixer.
What’s more, the FR-AV4 provides timecode generation with HDMI-based sync, and you can trigger recording from your camera for seamless operation. There is also 4K/8K pass-through, and you can embed multichannel audio, which is ideal if you’re using monitor-recorders from Blackmagic Design or Atomos. In addition, you can double the channel input count by chaining two FR-AV4 units over HDMI.
For calibrating more complex camera rigs, there is a tone generator and an I/O audio delay (0-300ms), so you can ensure your recording and monitoring gain structure is optimized and tightly in sync. You also have access to per-channel EQ, low-cut filter, limiter, and noise gate to reduce the amount of avoidable post-production work.
Alternatively, the FR-AV4 functions as a 4×2 audio interface for desktop and mobile devices on macOS, Windows, iOS, or Android. Also, with the optional AK-BT2 attachment, you can enable remote control via mobile app and wireless audio monitoring, as well as Atomos Bluetooth sync and Ambisonics mode for spatial audio workflows.
