Impressive looking machines are emerging from Flame with TAKT taking the rhythm and TON taking the melody complete with D-Beam interaction.

TAKT & TON

This is the first look at two companion sequencing modules from Flame Instruments. All we have to go on so far is a photo and a short video. TAKT appears to be an 8-track rhythm sequencer while TON takes on melodic duties with a little button keyboard and the intriguing D-Beam laser controller.

TAKT looks pretty comprehensive and offers a lot more than multiple tracks of triggers. Along with each trigger/gate output there’s a corresponding Velocity output and a knob with which, presumably, you can set velocity for each step. Buttons for patterns shows that you can load up different ideas and the very welcome Fill button suggests that you can fire off something interesting to mix up your beats. There appear to be 4 LFOs built-in with synced oscillations that could be driving aspects of your percussion modules. There’s a lot in here that I’m looking forward to hearing more about.

More Information

TON calls itself a Melody Looper rather than a sequencer which is interesting. I wonder what the D-Beam controller is tied to. D-Beam is a technology most famously used by Roland and typically you wave your hand over it to trigger modulations, move filters and such like. As they call it a looper I wonder whether you can use it to layer up changes and CV over a sequence? Or perhaps in conjunction with the little button keyboard acting as a quantiser, you could use it to play notes.

Apparently, we won’t be seeing the finished articles until later in the year.
