Flame has an 8-channel polyphonic drum and percussion synthesizer called FIRE. I wonder how long Flame has held onto that product name?

FIRE

Fire is a multichannel digital sound source that focuses on drums and percussion. The sound engine is a combination of virtual analogue, FM and wavetable sounds, and while it’s tuned for percussion, you can also pull out bass and synth sounds. It comes with a bunch of kits ready to go.

Fire is focused on live performance and fast tweaking. You can select the channels from the row of buttons at the bottom, and then you have eight knobs to go to town on the loaded sound. Some sounds have more than one page of parameters for detailed editing. Each instrument has an alternative version, and you can morph between the two, and you can do this for the entire kit at once if you want.

The initial module is more MIDI orientated than CV, with two separate MIDI inputs plus a couple of assignable CV modulation inputs, stereo audio outputs and a couple more. However, the XFIRE I/O expansion module, which comes with it, opens it up to 8 analogue trigger inputs and 8 audio outputs. However, if you stick to MIDI then you can use the trigger inputs as CV inputs for more assignable control.

FIRE should be available in July for €490.

More Information

TAKT and TON

We were introduced to TAKT and TON at last year’s Superbooth and are perfect companions to the FIRE and now come with matching front panels.

TAKT is an 8-track trigger sequencer with MIDI as well as CV velocity/modulation outputs. It comes with a bunch of 2HP sensor modules that can be used to trigger four channels. You’ll also find it has four LFOs with all sorts of waveforms and stuff going on. It looks very complicated but also sounds exciting and probably needs an expanded exploration.

TON is a little melody looper for creating a pair of note sequences. It plays a pattern of up to four bars in length, and you can use the little keyboard to transpose or set a scale. There are all sorts of manipulation available to you to play.
