Arturia’s Freak series is arguably one of the best things that happened to the synth world in recent years. Both the MicroFreak and the MiniFreak feature incredibly versatile digital oscillators that can do anything from granular to wavetable to samples to additive synthesis. The MicroFreak has one of these oscillators, while the polyphonic MiniFreak steps it up a notch by giving you two per voice.

Elektron Analog Four MkII: Four Voices and a Powerful Sequencer

Elektron’s Analog Four MKII has been around for a while, but it’s still one of the best-sounding and most versatile analog desktop synths for a sequencer-based workflow. With four synth tracks and an FX track, it gives you plenty of flexibility: Use it as four independent monophonic synths, or combine the four voices for polyphonic sounds. In addition to two analog oscillators with variable waveshapes and two sub-oscillators, each voice features two analog filters and plenty of LFOs and envelopes for modulation.
