We’ve just heard that Superbooth 2020 has been cancelled. They were carrying on with never-fading optimism that the synthesizer show would go ahead but sadly it’s been beaten by concerns for our health.

COVID-19 shuts down Superbooth

I think we’ve been expecting this for a little while as other events started to fall. When the German Health minister suggested that all events of more than 1,000 people should be cancelled then it seemed only a matter of time until this landed on Superbooth.

We heard that the organisers of Superbooth sent out an email last week to all the exhibitors to see if they were all still planning to come along. I imagine the response from that has had a lot to do with this decision.

When you think about there’s probably no environment as contagious as a synthesizer show. You have synth manufacturers from all the world, places like China, Japan and Italy. You have all those plastic keyboards and knobs being fingered by sweaty synth nerds. Because of the noise you’ll be shouting right into each others faces just to be heard. It’s the sort of environment in which you tend to catch a cold on a regular year.

And then, of course, the numbers would be down because we’re all pretty scared of travelling at the moment and I don’t see this getting any better by the end of April. In a recent briefing in the UK they said we are 14 weeks from the peak which puts it at the end of May. This is turning out to be a monumentally terrible year for the music industry with all the trade shows, events and live music being cancelled. The impact on musicians and businesses, venues, merchandising, caterers, security, travel firms and everything that goes into putting on a show is immense. Maybe this is the time to visit the Superbooth shop and support them by buying some merchandise. Let’s hope we’ll be out of the other end of this soon.

The statement from Superbooth is simply:

Due to the current health situation and the worldwide development of the Coronavirus there will be no SuperBooth event in 2020.
All Ticketholder can give their already purchased tickets back for a full refund.
