The Steven Slate Audio VSX Horizon One expands the popular VSX headphone range, alongside the release of MSX for AirPods Pro and VSX 8.0.
The VSX Horizon One is the latest evolution in closed-back headphones in the VSX virtual monitoring range, featuring high-quality construction with an aluminum chassis, maple earcups, and 50 mm dynamic drivers.

With these upgrades on the previous VSX closed-back headphone design, the Steven Slate Audio VSX Horizon One promises faster and more detailed transient response, as well as improved clarity in the high-frequency range and lower distortion levels overall. Even without the VSX software running, the Horizon One performs exceptionally well as a set of reference headphones with a neutral and truthful sound profile.
New additions in VSX 8.0 include a special new ROOM feature that shifts the positioning of your virtual monitoring by moving the “speakers” further back and taking the walls out of the space to create a deeper, more immersive mixing environment. This setting works by recreating the detailed reflective profile of an acoustic space and the readings of indirect sound waves rebounding from the studio walls.
The primary VSX software algorithm has been redesigned based on the way our ears and brain respond to the placement of speakers in an environment. This gives the virtual spaces more detail and depth, improving the perception of the mid and far monitoring fields. Also, the virtual sweet spot feels larger and more natural, which completely moves away from the sometimes claustrophobic feel of mixing on headphones.
Another new development from Steven Slate Audio brings the modeling technology to the Apple AirPods Pro wireless earphones, with a dynamic algorithm that corrects the low-end response, which is often problematic on in-ear headphones. MSX lets you monitor in a pro studio environment from your AirPods Pro earbuds, or reference your tracks in spaces like clubs, car stereos, and more.
