For SpectraLayers 9, Steinberg has obviously gone to great lengths to ensure a speedy, seamless workflow. All in all, the update includes many new features designed to help you achieve results quickly, including real-time processing, AI-driven processes, and interface enhancements.

Undoubtedly, the fact that SpectraLayers 9 supports real-time auditioning is the biggest improvement. While changing a parameter and listening to the results were two separate steps in previous versions, you can now hear changes as you’re making them. That’s obviously a game-changer for a quicker, more intuitive workflow.

Moreover, dialog boxes in SpectraLayers 9 are non-modal, which means that you can leave them open while you make changes elsewhere in the interface. According to Steinberg, things like moving the playhead, changing a selection, switching layers, and making adjustments no longer require you to close an open dialog. Together with the new real-time monitoring, this should lead to a significantly smoother user experience.

Unmix Level Process

Furthermore, SpectraLayers 9 offers a new Unmix Level process, which divides a layer based on a user-specified amplitude split point. Adding to the existing Unmix Stems and Unmix Components processes, it provides another way to prepare audio for further editing. Apart from this, Steinberg has expanded the AI-assisted De-Bleed process introduced in SpectraLayers 8. The new version allows you to apply multiple bleed source layers to the target layer at once, which results in faster and better de-bleeding, the developer says.

Last but not least, Steinberg SpectraLayers 9 is now compatible with Apple Silicon processors. In addition to this, the software now offers 20% faster ARA transfer times for a speedier workflow when used in another DAW in ARA mode.
