Introducing Spotify DJ, a new personal music curation tool with an interactive voice interface for Android and iOS. To intuitively find songs that you know and love, it uses generative AI technology from the company that brought you ChatGPT.
In 2022, Spotify acquired the London-based startup, Sonantic, and uses its incredibly realistic AI voice platform as the interface for Spotify DJ. In creating the voice for DJ, Spotify worked with its own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan, and will continue to develop the app as it grows.
How does Spotify DJ work?
Using data about your listening habits, Generative AI creates a dynamic profile. The beauty is that the more information Spotify DJ has about the music, artists, and genres you love, the more detailed and intuitive the personalization becomes.
When you’re on the Spotify App, simply hit the DJ card on your Music Feed. The DJ will begin lining up songs for you with a brief commentary about the songs and artists selected. What’s more, if you ever feel the DJ has missed the spot, simply tap the DJ button to be taken on a different tangent of your musical journey.
Overall, this seems like a promising new development in terms of using AI integration to enhance the user experience. It makes you wonder if Spotify will continue to incorporate this technology into other areas with content like podcasts too. Only time will tell us how effective it can be.
However, even simple algorithmic database apps like Discovr were revolutionary when they came out. So a little excitement is certainly in order when one thinks of the potential of future developments.
