Sontronics ZETA: A Modern JFET Condenser
A new workhorse studio condenser, with warm sonic characterics.

The Sontronics ZETA is a transformer-based large-diaphragm condenser designed to be the go-to workhorse microphone in the modern recording studio.
Based on the southern coast of England, Sontronics Microphones has been in business for over 20 years now, offering a wide range of purpose-built mics for recording, podcasting, and live performance applications.
Sontronics ZETA
Rather than taking a vintage approach to the ZETA’s design, Sontronics created this mic to have its own unique identity. However, this doesn’t mean that this JFET condenser doesn’t have a distinctive sonic character. With a specially tuned Lundahl transformer, the ZETA captures every detail of vocal and instrumental performances with warmth and clarity.
With its low self-noise (~9 dBA) design, the ZETA has been created to give your recordings a finished edge that will save you time in post-production. This is particularly beneficial for vocal recording because most songs are mixed around the vocals to give the listener a clear focal point, no matter what the style of the music is.
The ZETA is a cardioid-only mic with a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response, a 33mV/Pa sensitivity rating, and a maximum SPL of 125 dB. It’s ideal for male and female vocals and speech, of course, as well as acoustic guitar, cello, and in stereo overhead configurations. What’s more, you can also tackle loud guitar amp cabinets if you need to.
The mic ships in a molded foam protective case, perfect for storage when it’s not being used, as well as a microphone clip. However, the mic does have an internal shockmount, and you can add an optional shock mount and pop filter, depending on the nature of your recording workflow.
