Now in its 20th year, the Swedish manufacturer, Softube, has always sought to create high-quality creative solutions for musicians, producers, and engineers, and the Console 1 Channel is a great example of this.

First and foremost, the new Console 1 Channel gives you a more realistic analogue console feel than ever before. The 27 controller knobs provide over 10 times the resolution than the previous model, making the user experience more precise and authentic.

Console 1 Channel ships with Softube’s Core Mixing Suite software, and provides a complete channel strip of controls divided into preamp, shape, EQ, and compression for handling plug-ins like Softube Tape, FET Compressor Mk II, and Bus Processor.

Each of the Shape, EQ, and Compressor sections allows two plug-in instances and the knob-per-function interface helps you deal with each aspect of your processing chain without changing your focus and reaching for your mouse.

In addition, dual USB-C ports provide connectivity for daisy chaining additional devices, which is useful and there are mounting options for both VESA and 19-inch rack formats.

    Solid upgrade while nothing spectacular.

Weird: The screens somehow invalidate the “mix by ear” approach. Perhaps competitor pressure (SSL) was too strong.

I can also see why send 4-7 could not be easily added to the legacy versions with a simple button combo.

The software bundle makes it a bit weird for existing Softube customers who likely own quite some of the products.

on a related note I’d like to understand why the first thing manufacturers show about their product is a close-up shot of their product from a weird angle and not a high resolution picture of the product from the top; so I can understand the full layout of the interface; which is the most important thing that interest me. Why nobody has figured that out; except thomann where I always go to see full pictures of gear to get a better understanding of what it does? If I go to the softube website I have to scroll to the bottom of the page to get this info (and that’s lucky I get it at all). tell me I’m the only one that thing drives mad.
