REVV Tilt Overdrive designed with Shawn Tubbs for vintage amp tones
Vintage amp tone in a pedal?
The new Revv Shawn Tubbs Tilt Overdrive is the first dual-sided effect pedal from REVV. The pedal has been specified by session guitarist and YouTuber Shawn Tubbs. Designed to be as natural sounding and flexible as possible, perfect for studio and live work.
REVV Tilt Overdrive
The Tilt Overdrive pedal is divided into two distinct sections: Overdrive and Boost. Both can be activated independently from each other via a dedicated footswitch for each side. The overdrive should sound and feel like a vintage amplifier and can be adapted to taste with volume, gain and a 2-band EQ section with Treble and Bass knobs. REVV states it was designed to be a ‘touch-sensitive amp-voiced drive’. This sounds great for us guitar players and the video demo below should give you an idea of what to expect.
The Boost also has a Tilt EQ as a special feature. This “tilts” the frequency behaviour in one direction, i.e. more bass and fewer highs or the other way around – always at the same time. In addition, there is a Tight toggle switch that cuts the bass linearly descending or by means of a cow tail curve. Especially handy when using heavily distorted guitar sounds.
It is operated via a commercially available 9 V power supply, but internally it scales up to 18 volts for more headroom. The pedal has top-mounted jacks and uses silent relay switching. Shawn Tubbs has been over 30 years developing his signature sound whilst working on sessions in L.A. and Nashville, along with touring with plenty of Grammy Award-winning artists. Therefore, I’d expect this Canadian built pedal to be solid in operation. The company builds some great guitar amps and so they should be able to capture some of that in a pedal format as well.
