More Information

Developer Gabriel Soule aka Soule DSP has released Resonarium, a free and open-source physical modeling synth based on string waveguide modeling. It’s an impressive-looking thing with a knob-laden user interface, so it might take some time to wrap your head around. But the demo tracks on the developer’s website reveal a wide spectrum of unusual, complex, evocative timbres that are perfect for cinematic sound design and experimental music.

The user interface gives you access to a range of exciters (impulse, noise, and sequence), a sampler, and four waveguides, each with its own comprehensive set of controls. Resonarium also features a wide array of modulators, such as simple and complex envelopes, LFOs, and randomizers. Filter, chorus, phaser, distortion, and delay effects are also included. The synth supports MPE and Soule DSP says that it works especially well with an MPE-compatible control device.

According to the developer, Resonarium is still in development, so you might still encounter a bug or two. But it’s already a very promising-looking software synth that should be right up your alley if you’re into experimental sound design.

Resonarium is currently available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3 and AU formats.
