PRS Silver Sky Defender LTD: De-Fending with Land Rover Colors

Is this the biggest product trolling in guitar history? A subtle jab at the Strat-makers legal roundhouse kick? Or mere coincidence? Either way, John Mayer’s Silver Sky series from PRS is getting a colorful addition: the Silver Sky Defender LTD and the SE Silver Sky Defender LTD. Both come with the usual Silver Sky features, but in terms of the colorways, PRS is collaborating with none other than Land Rover and its Defender series.

PRS Silver Sky Defender LTD
The new limited-edition Silver Sky Defender models from the U.S. are limited to 500 units worldwide. So, if you really want to own one of these, be quick (and wealthy). In terms of features, these models come with the setup we’ve come to expect from Silver Sky: alder body, bolt-on maple neck (635 JM-R profile), rosewood fretboard, and three 635JM single coils.
What’s new for the series are the colorways. The Silver Sky LTD models come in Aries Blue*, Willow Green*, Portofino Red*, and Sandglow Yellow*. All four were drawn from classic 4×4 Defenders from the 50s.
You also get a Land Rover Defender logo on the backplate and the included hardshell case. What’s noticeable different here (it might or might not have to do with how other double-cut, single coil guitars look) is the color-matched headstock. Visually, that’s certainly a bold choice.
All models are available at Thomann* and Sweetwater* for 3,699 euros / 3,200 USD, respectively.
SE Silver Sky Defender LTD
There is also going to be an SE version of the SIlver Sky Defender LTS, which willl be produced for a limited time until mid-2027. Each SE guitar comes with three 635JM “S” single coils, a poplar body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard.
It’s available in Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Gray, and Woolstone Green. Here, the matching headstock is noticeably missing. These four colorways are modeled after Land Rover Defender models from recent years.
All four SE models are available from Thomann* or Sweetwater* for 899 euros / 999 USD, respectively.
