PreSonus has expanded the Eris series with the Sub8 powered subwoofer. Designed to complement the Eris E3.5 and E4.5 media reference monitors in small rooms, the Sub8 delivers a frequency response down to 30 Hz.
PreSonus Eris Sub8
PreSonus says that the new Eris Sub8 subwoofer adds “serious bass” to the Eris E3.5, E3.5BT, E4.5 and E4.5BT speakers. These small multimedia monitors are typically used in small rooms, and the Sub8 is designed to complement them in this scenario.
With an 8-inch woofer and 100 watts of power, the Sub8 is “surprisingly loud”, PreSonus says. It’s frequency response extends down to 30 Hz, which is 50 Hz below the Eris 3.5. Whether you’re doing multimedia work or producing hip hop or EDM, this added bass range will certainly come in handy.
At the back, the Eris Sub8 features stereo inputs and outputs in both 1/4” TRS and RCA formats. This way, there’s no fiddling with adapters whether you’re connecting it to an audio interface, monitor controller, mixer or DJ mixer.
In addition to an input gain control, the subwoofer offers a sweepable low pass filter that reaches from 50 Hz to 130 Hz. This lets you tune the subwoofers crossover frequency to match your speakers. There’s also a phase inversion switch and a switchable high pass filter, which removes low frequency content below 80 Hz from the signal sent to the main speakers.
PreSonus says that the Sub8 not only works well with the Eris E3.5 and E4.5 speakers, but can also be used to enhance the performance of any powered speaker in a home theater or gaming rig. With its compact size and affordable price, there are many possible uses that come to mind.
