To celebrate the holidays, Native Instruments released a brand new free effect called Phasis. As you may have guessed from the name, this is a phaser plug-in. It borrows its sounds from classic phaser units, but since this is Native Instruments’ take on a phaser, new features that are to be expected are certainly there.

In addition to the stock Amount, Rate, and Feedback controls, NI has added Spread to change the spacing of the phaser’s notches and enable vocal-style effects. Another tool to experiment with is Ultra mode, where modulation is pushed to very high rates for sounds reminiscent of Frequency Modulation.

Other than that, Phasis is a simple and stylish phaser that makes for a nice little freebie from Native Instruments. As expected, this is a professionally done plug-in that comes complete with a user manual.

Phasis is available in VST, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and Mac systems. It’s said to be compatible with any host and DAW. Mind you, though, the download size is a hefty 90MB. This probably owes to the three formats in which it’s available, in both 32 and 64-bit variants.
