Novation seem to be in constant motion at the moment with updates and firmware coming from all directions. Version 2 of Launchpad for iOS only arrived back in June and here we go again with a whole new redesign.

Colour

The most obvious change is the colour – hooray! It’s now multi-coloured – no more of the fields of yellow and green. This of course reflects the colour of the Launchpad Pro hardware which you can run along side in perfect synchronisation.

Effects

As with the previous version there are a bunch of effects eager for tweaking which you can do on the fly. The controls are vastly improved giving you a much better grasp as to what’s going on.

Sync

The Ableton Link is still there from version 2 allowing you to sync up to Ableton Live over a MIDI connection or other apps and iOS devices.

Launchpad for iOS V3

It’s really all in the redesign of the interface and honestly it looks fabulous. The colour makes it instantly more appealing. The effects controls give you a lot more to play with and the way everything seems to gel together is superb.

It’s still a loop remixing app for messing with other people’s music and as much as I dislike that it is an awful lot of fun. I’m still predicting Blocs integration by version 4 which should be along in a couple of weeks.
