ProCo is releasing a mini version of their famous Rat 2 overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedal, letting you stomp on a Lil Rat!

ProCo Lil Rat

First off, I am a huge fan of the ProCo Rat. It’s been my go-to pedal for about 30 odd years. I currently own 5 of them! I love how they can do drive, distortion and fuzz, all in one pedal. And that Filter control is a great way to get sweet, singing tones. So when I saw this new cute Lil Rat it put a huge smile on my face. I love the versatility of the Rat circuit and to have a dinky one on my pedalboard setup would be ace.

Half a Rat?

ProCo is giving you the exact same circuit and the same components as the Rat 2. But they’ve squeezed it like a lemon to make it fit onto tighter pedalboard setups. It will no doubt still be have the same bombproof metal construction, and will have the same three controls, Distortion, Filter and Volume. It’ll probably be powered from an external 9 Volt power supply and at under 2″ wide, I doubt you’d get a battery in there anyway!

The official demo video below sounds great and I can see these being very popular with players looking for the famed Rat tone. Currently, there are zero details about this new pedal on the ProCo site, and we don’t have a price yet. So keep your eyes peeled for this little rodent.

Love my Rat. Been my favourite distortion pedal since I got it. It’s about time they made a smaller one.
